Constitution

The Deliverers is the name of an unincorporated association based in the United Kingdom. The aim of this association is to promote Christianity through distributing handwritten letters, cards, postcards and other written messages through the postal system.

1. Membership

Membership is open to any person who is:

  • At least 16 years of age

  • A committed Christian who assents to the Nicene Creed (that is, the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed of 325-381, either including or excluding the later addition of the ‘filioque’)

  • Committed to the reliability and authority of the Bible

  • Committed to spreading the Good News of Christianity

  • Willing in principle to send at least twelve mailings to this end per calendar year.

Membership is not restricted by nationality or country of residence, provided that the operating model of the Deliverers is feasible in a prospective member’s country (that is, that a functioning postal service operates at non-prohibitive prices, and that it is reasonably achievable to obtain addresses reachable by that service that are likely to house non-Christians).

Membership is free of charge, although members are generally expected to pay for the costs of their own mailings.

Membership is confirmed by an agreement in writing between the applicant and the current Secretary once the applicant has read and agreed to this contract and the Secretary has been satisfied that the applicant meets the membership criteria. The Secretary should immediately enter the new member’s details into a secure register of members, to be curated for as long as he or she continues in membership of the association.

Members can choose to leave the Deliverers at any point by notifying the current Secretary. A member who becomes persistently inactive and unresponsive for a period of at least six months can have their membership revoked by the Secretary, although they are welcome to rejoin the association in future. A member who is found to contravene the membership criteria – for example, by being under the age of 16, not believing in Christianity as expressed in the Nicene Creed, or including any content in their mailings which contradicts Nicene Christianity and/or the Bible - can have their membership revoked by a two-thirds majority of the other voting members, provided that this decision is based purely on a failure to meet the membership criteria. Anyone whose membership is thus revoked is welcome to rejoin the Deliverers in future, if they can demonstrate that they now meet the membership criteria, and if their rejoining is approved by a two-thirds majority of voting members.

2. Inauguration and annual cycle

The Deliverers was founded on Monday 12 December 2022 by the following founding members:

James Christopher Harman, born 3 March 1994, of [...] Guildford, Surrey, GU2 8LR

Sally-Anne Harman, born 2 April 1973, of the same address

On the same occasion, the first official Deliverers mailing, a series of 200 evangelistic Christmas cards targeting the neighbourhoods of the United Kingdom with the fewest Christians based on the newly released 2021 Census data, was posted by the founding members.

The first membership year ran from 12 December 2022 to 31 December 2023. Henceforth, membership years run from 1 January to 31 December of the calendar year in question.

3. General meeting

The general meeting of the Deliverers is to be held annually, and may be held in person, online or in a hybrid format as convenient. The minimum attendance for a valid general meeting is three members, at least one of whom is the outgoing Secretary, although all members should do their best to attend if at all possible.

The general meeting should include the election of a Secretary for the following year, with the transition between the outgoing and the newly elected Secretary taking place at the end of the meeting. It should also include a review of the activities of the association in the previous year, a strategy for the year to come, and any other key decisions or points for discussion for the association.

4. The role of Secretary

The association is administered by an elected Secretary whose role is to:

  • Chair the general meeting, and any other meetings organised.

  • Maintain a register of members and manage members’ joining and leaving the association.

  • Facilitate communications between members and schedule meetings.

  • Manage the association’s online presence and external communications.

  • Manage any financial or other assets held by the association.

  • Organise mailing campaigns throughout the year in response to occasions of interest and/or the priorities of the members.

  • Ensure that reliable research is undertaken to identify residential addresses in the neighbourhoods with the fewest Christians and/or the most of a particular selected target audience.

  • Provide each member with their required number of addresses.

  • Generally lead and manage the activities of the association.

Any member of the association is eligible to nominate himself or herself for the role of Secretary. The Secretary is elected for a term of one year at the general meeting, either by receiving the most votes of the attending members or by being the only candidate for the role.

The role of Secretary is and always will be unpaid and purely voluntary. The members must provide the Secretary with appropriate scrutiny to ensure that he or she works honestly and diligently in the interests of the association, has no significant conflicts of interest, and gains no financial or other advantages from his or her execution of the role.

5. Finance

The secretary may hold funds on behalf of the members of the Deliverers. These funds are received through donations from those supportive of the work of the association. Under no circumstances are funds held in this way to be used for the private benefit of any of the members of the association.

The Deliverers is not a charity, so that donations made to it do not qualify for Gift Aid or other forms of tax benefits.

It is not anticipated that the Deliverers will receive substantial amounts of income or incur significant expenditure. If this situation changes, the members should consider establishing more rigorous financial controls to ensure effective stewardship of these resources.

6. Data protection

The association will only hold its members’ personal information for purposes necessary to carry out its aims. Personal information will be treated with strict confidentiality and will never be shared beyond the association. The subjects of this information can contact the current Secretary at any time to access, change or delete the data held about themselves.

7. Dissolution and amendments

The decision to dissolve the association, or make any changes to this constitution, requires at least a two-thirds majority of the current members during its annual meeting. Should these changes be approved by this majority, they will apply as of the end of the meeting in question. Proposed changes to the constitution, or details and rationale on the proposal to dissolve the association, should be shared with all members in advance of such a meeting.

The original Constitution was agreed unanimously and signed by the founding members of the Deliverers on 12 December 2022. This version of the Constitution was agreed unanimously by the members of the Deliverers on 12 December 2025 and is signed by the following members on their behalf:

James Christopher Harman, 12/12/2025

Sally-Anne Harman, 12/12/2025
